no sooner...than / hardly...when
这两组结构都表示两个动作紧接发生，常用过去完成时搭配一般过去时。

as if 引导方式从句
acted as if he had never lived... 表示“表现得仿佛从未住过”，从句用过去完成时强调更早经历。
