I have just moved to a house in Bridge Street.
Yesterday a beggar knocked at my door.
knock at the door
He asked me for a meal and a glass of beer.
ask sb. for sth. 表示“向某人要某物”;meal and a glass of beer 是 Percy 的固定需求。
In return for this, the beggar stood on his head and sang songs.
in return for 表示“作为对……
I gave him a meal.
give sb. sth.
He ate the food and drank the beer.
Then he put a piece of cheese in his pocket and went away.
put ... in ...
Later a neighbour told me about him.
tell sb. about sb./sth.
Everybody knows him.
His name is Percy Buttons.
He calls at every house in the street once a month and always asks for a meal and a glass of beer.
call at 表示“短暂拜访某地”;once a month 是频率表达;always asks for...
I had just moved to ... when ... The beggar asked me for ... and, in return, ... Later I learnt that ...

I have just moved...
- She has just started a new job.
- We have just arrived in the city.
- He opened the box, took out a letter and smiled.
- The boy ran in, sat down and began to cry.
ask sb. for sth. / give sb. sth.
- She asked me for some help.
- I gave him a cup of tea.
call at + 地点
He calls at every house...
- The train calls at three small stations.
- I'll call at your office tomorrow.
- 结尾的 always asks for...
